Round Mountain Trail (1300 W US 34)
Guided Walk: Nature, Birding, History - Adult Programs
Join naturalist Rob Pickett on a 2.5-hour history-focused hike along the 2.1-mile (round-trip) Foothills Nature Trail, starting at the Round Mountain Trailhead. From the first fur traders and gold seekers to the first settlements along the Big Thompson River, this region has a rich and fascinating history. Following the Homestead Act and the arrival of the railroad, the Tri-cities area grew fairly rapidly: Greeley (1869), Fort Collins (1872) and Loveland (1877). In addition to history, we’ll identify plants and discuss the animals and geology along this engaging trail. Meet at the Round Mountain Trailhead, on the south side of Hwy 34, just west of Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park.
