Guided Walk: Nature, Birding, History - Mixed Ages

These monthly engaging walks at Loveland’s Open Lands & Trails introduce residents who are new to Northern Colorado and anyone who would like to visit a natural area that is new to them. Naturalist Rein K. explains how visiting these areas brings a connection to nature, ourselves, and others. He will share information about Loveland's open lands, the programs we offer, and how to access the Offero website. Rein also provides an opportunity to request information on how we can support your specific needs when enjoying the great outdoors. The balance of the program will be an informational walk through Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park, as Rein points out native plants and signs of wildlife to highlight the biodiversity present in this beautiful riverside setting in the Big Thompson canyon. He will include a visit to the Environmental Education cabin museum. Please prepare for the weather (including layers of clothing, good walking shoes, and water). There are vault restrooms available (no running water available in the park). We will be on level dirt and paved trails for a 1-mile walk. To park in the lower parking lot, west end, turn to the left after entering the main driveway and head down the hill to the west. Then walk across the bridge to meet Rein in the stone CCC picnic shelter area (there will be a flag to denote the location).
