Join in the second annual #OptOutside Mariana Butte Hill Climb. New this year - staggered times and optional routes. Both event options described below, note separate registration for each. This registration is for the 8 am hike. 8AM - Early hike - join the group for a loop around the base of Mariana Butte before heading for the summit to take in the 360-degree views. Open Lands & Trails staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer information about the butte, the flora and fauna, and the history of the immediate area. Minimum time commitment; 30-45 minutes for the guided portion of the hike (return at your own pace). 10AM - Head straight for top of Mariana Butte, take in the views and then join the optional hike along the Hidden Hogback trail to Oxbow Natural Area along the Big Thompson River. Open Lands & Trails staff and volunteers will be on hand to offer information about the butte, the flora and fauna, and the history of the immediate area. Minimum time commitment: 60-90 minutes. Guided portion (summit to Oxbow) 45-60 minutes - return at your own pace. Parking will be in the lower lot of Mariana Butte Golf Course Clubhouse - please carpool if possible. Check in at the Open Lands & Trails tent, which will also have information about other natural areas and Loveland trails. Bring water, wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes, and dress for the weather in layers. Binoculars and cameras welcome. Note: last part of summit climb is steep and does have rocky terrain - think of it as two flights of stairs with rocks. The very top is small - there may be a wait to summit depending on the number of people we entice into the outdoors on Black Friday. Let's opt for outside! "Games on the Range" at Mariana Butte Golf Course will be open at 11 am for hike participants to try out - FREE!
