Beginning in spring 2018, a new Critter Scene Investigation program was offered to schools for their Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grades. Groups ranged in size from 18 children up to 40 or 50. Chaperones also attend but the set up is different from the CSI programs we offer to the public. Based on last season's experience, we've made adjustments to help the program run smoothly and give the students good experiences while learning outdoors. The training is optional - volunteers can learn their 5-7 minute station talk during the hour of set-up before the program, but it can feel rushed. Those who have experienced our training last spring are more comfortable and confident with their station information and delivery. We will go over the booklet that contains the "story" and the "scripts" for each station - it helps to know where each station fits into the investigation. We will also talk about setting up the program at Namaqua Park, expectations for the kids, and how to troubleshoot some common items. This program was very popular for a "new" offering. We'd love to have a team of 6-7 for each school reservation, which translates into having a corps of 15-16 volunteers who are ready to help these young students learn about the outdoors and wildlife of Colorado.
