Mariana Butte (701 Clubhouse Dr)
Guided Walk: Nature, Birding, History - Adult Programs
Experience Colorado riparian (river) habitat and high desert habitat all in one morning hike! We'll explore along the trails from Mariana Butte, along Hidden Hogback Trail, and down to Oxbow Natural Area along the Big Thompson River for a total distance of just under 2 miles, with moderate elevational change. Naturalist Rob Pickett will meet you at the parking lot below the Pro shop at Mariana Butte Golf Course; please park in the lower lot leaving the upper slots for the golfers. Dress for the weather in layers, and wear closed-toe shoes for the hike on natural surface and rocky trails. You may want a hiking pole for the couple of small climbs (on the hogback trail is a stone curving stairway, and the last bit of a climb to the summit of the butte (optional) is like a double flight of stairs made of rocks. Please bring your own water, sunscreen, hat, etc. There's a great view from the trail and summit, you might want binoculars.
