Bats by the River - Outdoor Presentation
07/24/2025
| 08:30 PM - 09:30 PM
River's Edge Natural Area (960 W 1st St)
Natural Areas After Dark - Mixed Ages
Environmental Education Coordinator Michele Van Hare will help you learn about the importance of bats, see and hear bats, and be grateful... for bats! We'll have a few bat-ty items to examine, and we're hoping to have some bats join us, attracted by the insects coming to the lights on the picnic shelter. We'll use the sonar receiver and see how many different bats we can identify. Program will begin at the Bass Pond outdoor amphitheater, east of the main River's Edge parking lot. The program will include a slide presentation and some demonstration activities before we walk around the picnic shelter with our sonar receiver to detect bats in the area. You may bring a cushion or blanket for sitting on the stone amphitheater. Please dress for cooling evening temps.

I have spent most of my life in Colorado. I have a lifelong interest in nature as a photographer, an avid reader, a hiker (really an ambler), a student, and a teacher. I enjoy sharing nature with others and have been told that I make it easy and fun for my audiences. I have volunteered with the Open Lands and Trials Division since March 2018. I have volunteered as an instructor, trail host and guided walk leader. I am a Certified Interpretive Guide. I look forward to sharing time in Nature wit

I grew up on a cattle ranch in the mountains of Colorado and have a deep passion for our Earth and all its flora and fauna. My degree in Wildlife Bio Education opened the door to a love of helping others experience the wonders of our Environment - I spent 10 years as a substitute teacher; focusing mainly on Science and Outdoor School. My most recent Gig before official retirement was serving as a Facilitator for Equine Assisted Mental Resiliency groups in the Black Forest of CO
