Fireflies in the Meadow
07/05/2024
| 08:45 PM - 10:15 PM
Firefly Meadow Natural Area (5705 Cedar Valley Dr)
Natural Areas After Dark - Mixed Ages
NOTE: The program begins at 8:45pm with a brief presentation on firefly behavior and at 9:00pm we will begin our walk to the firefly habitat (it has to be dark to see them). We will have a walk to the west looking for fireflies and other notables along the closed road. We discovered the fireflies in 2018 and with enough moisture this year, it should be good viewing. You may have heard people say that "fireflies don't live in Colorado" - you just need to know where to look! A speaker from the Butterfly Pavilion will present a short program at the beginning of this event. Event will be held at the closure of Cedar Valley Drive, access from EAST only (via Rossum Drive). Address: 5705 Cedar Valley Drive, Loveland 80537 (Google Maps link: https://bit.ly/3K9xCJ9) Free, all ages welcome. Dress warmly for evening temperatures and bring binoculars if you’d like. NOTE: due to limited parking, please plan to carpool if possible. Also, the mosquitos may be out! Bring bug repellent and plan to apply it in the check in area before we head out on the walk - no repellent allowed on the walk so we do not affect the fireflies. Registration required. Sign up for reminders and notifications.
