Training Opportunity - Adult Programs

We are meeting in the Party Room - just past the vending machines from the Chilson Recreation Center lobby. This training will feature our new CSI - Critter Scene Investigation for the 2023-24 school year - The Case of the Flattened Frog. Training will be held indoors at Chilson. Volunteers, if you have not presented this program, training is recommended. This program was last given several years ago in our 3-year rotation of CSI programs. Any adult can take this training to help present Critter Scene Investigation field trip programs to local school groups. CSI programs are offered to Pre K-1st grade students at small group learning stations set up at Namaqua Park.CSI programs are 2 to 2.5-hour sessions (morning or afternoon), on weekdays. All training and materials provided. No experience necessary. The "Case of the Flattened Frog" Scene: While walking a trail in an Open Lands Natural Area, a volunteer found an unusual sight. It appeared to be a frog, “frozen in position to hop away.” But this frog never moved, seemed a little “flat” or “deflated” and the front legs didn’t show. When the volunteer approached, it looked very dry, and when she poked the frog, it turned over – no front legs or stomach! What happened to this frog? How did it get there? Was something eating it? Possible Suspects: Bighorn Sheep, Great Blue Heron, Raccoon, Kingfisher, Dog, Snapping Turtle (shhh- the Golden Retriever did it) Volunteers each present one suspect, as students rotate through the stations. The students' job is to examine the evidence and figure out the one responsible. See our website (www.lovgov.org/openlands) and click on Volunteer Opportunities and Environmental Education for more information.
