Willow Bend Natural Area (2538 E 1st St)
Guided Walk: Nature, Birding, History - Adult Programs
Join Certified Interpretive Guide Eldon G. for a Sunset Guided Walk at Willow Bend Natural Area. This site has been open to the public since July 2025. The natural area is adjacent to one of the largest and most unique parks in Loveland. We will explore the 1.1-mile soft-surface trail through the natural area, around Willow Bend Pond, along the Big Thompson River, and adjacent to Simpson Ponds State Wildlife Area. We will see a variety of native and non-native plants. The area provides habitat and migration opportunities for many types of wildlife. Hopefully, we will see some of these animals and/or signs of their activities. There are 2 parking areas available. If you use the large upper lot, park at the south end, near the green Open Lands flag. You will then walk a trail downhill to the our meeting spot at the stone amphitheater. The 2nd parking area is at the bottom of the hill near the amphitheater, but spaces are primarily for ADA use. A few standard parking spaces are available. Our explorations will include pond and riverside habitats along with a nice meadow. Be prepared to wander a bit by wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes. Insect repellent and sunscreen are also advised.

I have spent most of my life in Colorado. I have a lifelong interest in nature as a photographer, an avid reader, a hiker (really an ambler), a student, and a teacher. I enjoy sharing nature with others and have been told that I make it easy and fun for my audiences. I have volunteered with the Open Lands and Trials Division since March 2018. I have volunteered as an instructor, trail host and guided walk leader. I am a Certified Interpretive Guide. I look forward to sharing time in Nature wit
