Fireflies in the Meadow
06/26/2025
| 08:45 PM - 10:15 PM
Natural Areas After Dark - Mixed Ages
UPDATE - As of June 23, all walks are full, and there are many people on the waitlist. Due to limited parking and the sensitive nature of this habitat, drop-ins cannot be accommodated. A waitlist is available, so sign up to be notified if there are openings. Please do not attend unless you receive confirmation that you have been registered for the activity. NOTE: Date is subject to change based on firefly emergence. Please register to receive all updates regarding scheduling changes. If you don't register, you won't be notified. TIME: ARRIVE 8:40PM for firefly behavior presentation which begins at 8:45PM. We will walk together to the meadow afterward. It has to be dark to see the fireflies. We will have a walk to the west looking for fireflies and other notables along the closed road. We discovered the fireflies in 2018 and with enough moisture this year, it should be good viewing. You may have heard people say that "fireflies don't live in Colorado" - but you just need to know where to look! Free, all ages welcome. Dress warmly for cooling evening temperatures and bring binoculars if you have them. Dogs are not allowed. Due to limited parking, please plan to carpool if possible. Also, the mosquitoes may be out! Bring bug repellent and plan to apply it in the check-in area before we head out on the walk - no repellent allowed on the walk, so we do not affect the fireflies. Registration required. Sign up for reminders and notifications.
