A Day of Service for Hometown Trails and the People Who Love Them! Celebrate National Trails Day by giving the trails some love at River's Edge Natural Area. We’ll use crusher fine gravel materials to resurface and repair trails around the Jayhawker Ponds. No experience necessary, all tools and materials provided. Bring your favorite work gloves, water, sunscreen, and bug spray. Dress for the weather in layers; sturdy closed-toed shoes and a hat recommended. We'll provide extra gloves, water, snacks, sunscreen. We'll also have free swag from Open Lands & Trails and American Hiking Society, and non-alcoholic brews donated by Athletic Brewing Company. Take the pledge to leave trails and the outdoor community better than you found them and be entered to win premium gear prize packs from the American Hiking Society: https://americanhiking.org/national-trails-day/#pledge (copy and paste link into new window). NOTE: Meet at the overflow parking lot at 970 W First St, near Jayhawker Ponds (look for the Open Lands flag). River's Edge is currently accessible ONLY from the west (Taft Ave) due to an infrastructure project closing First St east of River's Edge. If coming from the east, detours are Eisenhower Blvd/Hwy 34 or 14th St SW/Hwy 402. Registration appreciated, for free swag and notification of any changes.
