Children's Day Event & Volunteer Sign-up - Chilson Recreation Center (700 E 4th St)
Thursday, 07 March 2024 @ 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM
Volunteer Opportunity - Mixed Ages
Theme for Children's Day this year is Children's Art (Month). The Open Lands & Trails activity will include making rubbings of animal pictures and tracks, along with our "touch tables" with materials for children to explore and learn about nature. Children’s Day is the result of the long-time dream of Loveland resident Annie Hall, who lived for 100 years as the biggest fan of children and who believed that children deserved a day totally dedicated to celebration and enjoyment and their spirit. With Annie’s request, Colorado Senator Stan Matsunaka sponsored Senate Joint Resolution 01-015 in March 2001, which created a Colorado Children’s Day to be celebrated each year in March. The resolution was unanimously passed by the Colorado legislature. The City of Loveland, in cooperation with Thompson School District, has been celebrating Colorado Children’s Day since 2002 and the event is still celebrated in Loveland each March in Annie’s memory. Representatives from City departments including Parks and Recreation (Recreation, Open Lands and Golf Divisions), Cultural Services, Facilities Management, Fire Rescue Authority, Public Library, Police, Streets and Traffic, Stormwater, and Water & Power will have information and kid-friendly activities for all who join in celebrating our children.
